Pine forest Media center
The need
For several years, the Pine Forest Elementary media center quietly sat at the margins of school life. Without a dedicated media specialist for more than four years, the space gradually shifted from a vibrant learning hub into a catch-all storage room. Shelves once meant for discovery and imagination became crowded with unused materials, and the library’s full potential went largely untapped.
This year marked an important turning point. With the arrival of a part-time media specialist, the process of restoring the library began in earnest.
What awaited her was no small task: thousands of books needed to be carefully sorted and culled, book mites had to be addressed, and signs of mold required attention. Years of accumulated storage meant that organization had to start almost from scratch.
Despite the challenges, this work has been an act of renewal. Piece by piece, the media center is being reclaimed, not just as a room, but as a space for curiosity, literacy, and community.
What once was neglected is now being reimagined with care, intention, and a vision for what the Pine Forest Elementary media center can become for its students once again.
The work
In just a short time, an incredible amount of work has already taken place to bring the library back to life.
Hundreds of new books have been thoughtfully purchased, sorted, labeled, and scanned into the system, making them accessible to students once again. The entire library has been repainted, and the shelves have been refreshed and redecorated to create a welcoming, vibrant space.
This transformation has been fueled by dedication and creativity: spending hours at library sales and used bookstores to find high-quality, affordable books that reflect students’ interests and spark their imagination. All of this has happened while our part-time media specialist has continued to teach, support students, and keep books in circulation.
What was once a storage space has already become a functioning, thriving library again, thanks to a tremendous amount of care, effort, and love.
🎉📚 Join Our Birthday Book Club! 📚🎉
We’re launching a special way to celebrate student birthdays while growing our school library!
Families are invited to join our Birthday Book Club by donating the cost of a new library book during their child’s birthday month. A bookplate inside the book will recognize the donation in honor of your child, and they’ll be the first to check it out.
This optional program helps us add new, high-quality books to our shelves while celebrating each student in a meaningful way.
What continues…
While the library has already come a long way, there is still much more to do to ensure it fully serves the students of Pine Forest Elementary.
Our students are eager readers, and expanding the collection with a wide variety of books— fiction, nonfiction, and diverse voices— is essential to keep them engaged and inspired. Every new book added brings fresh opportunities for discovery and learning.
Currently, the library fund is extremely limited, with only $200 available for purchases. A more robust fund would allow us to invest in high-quality books, classroom sets, and resources that support literacy and learning across all grade levels. It would also help maintain and replace materials as needed, ensuring that the library remains a vibrant and sustainable space for years to come.
In addition to books, the media center still needs other tools and resources to thrive. Educational games, technology, organizational materials, and creative learning aids will help transform the library into a full-featured hub where students can explore, create, and grow. With continued support from our community, we can build a media center that not only serves today’s students but will be a cornerstone of learning for generations to come.
The Pine Forest Elementary Library is being transformed, but the work isn’t done. We still need books, educational materials, and a stronger library fund to keep this space thriving for our students. Every dollar makes a difference— whether it buys a new favorite book, a classroom set, or essential supplies to keep learning alive.
Give today and help our students discover, explore, and grow!
We are inviting local businesses to partner with us by sponsoring a bookshelf in our media center for the 2026–2027 school year. Your sponsorship would directly support the purchase of new, high-quality books and help us create inviting, well-curated shelves that encourage students to explore and read.
